Introduction to Stata

09-10 December 2019

Time: 9:00am - 5:00pm

Trainer: Johanna Sophie Quis
Language: English
Registration: until 25 November 2019
for doctoral candidates via BayDOC: https://baydoc.uni-bayreuth.de
for Postdocs and Habilitierende via https://baydoc.uni-bayreuth.de/ubt/de/intern/postdoc/

  • Basic statistical knowledge is assumed (e.g. descriptive statistics, basics of regression analysis)
  • No previous knowledge of Stata is required
  • Knowledge of syntax-based software (e.g. SPSS, R) is helpful but not required

Please note that the course does not give a detailed insight into the statistical procedures and the underlying mathematics, but introduces how to use standard statistical procedures in Stata.

After attending the first day of the course, students with no prior Stata knowledge will be able to use basic commands in Stata, understand the basic logic of “how Stata works”, and will use do- and log-files to document their analyses.

The second day builds upon the first, but is also open to intermediate beginners, who know how to use do-files and perform simple regression analyses. It will cover more commands for analyses and add automation techniques like loops and macros as well as the production of publishable tables and graphics.

Qualification objective

To gain a basic working knowledge in order to conduct own empirical research using Stata.

2009-2013 VWL-Studium an der LMU München, seit 2013 Promotion an der Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg.
